Always move towards pain when making art.
The truth may be puzzling. It may take some work to grapple with. It may be counter-intuitive. It may contradict deeply held prejudices. It may not be consonant with what we desperately want to be true. But our preferences do not determine what's true.
All truth goes through three stages. First it is ridiculed. Then it is violently opposed. Finally it is accepted as self-evident.
"A true friend is someone who you can act like a complete idiot in front of and not be the slightest bit embarrassed."
"Sometimes people take the great things you are doing as a personal attack on their own life. Do not let their insecurities dishearten you."
Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.
A poem is never a put-up job so to speak. It begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a love sickness. It is never a thought to begin with.
Nothing is impossible, just hard or difficult.
Every generation is a caution tale for the next one.
Think for yourself and question authority.
